MoCo Food Trucks Park It, Online

A collection of food trucks in Montgomery County organized a collective website, www.mocofoodtrucks.com.

The grown-up lunch line is just as likely to be outside, on the corner of a busy intersection as it is inside of a strip mall restaurant. (And it's been that way for years now.) And while residents and workers in places lousy with food trucks may enjoy the variety and speed of mobile food offerings, keeping up with what's available and when can be a challenge.  A new website, www.mocofoodtrucks.com, organizes about a dozen food trucks within the county and includes a comprehensive calendar of when some of the trucks will be in which area.  Here's how the organizers describe the site: "This site will tell you the three "Ws" of food trucks: Where we are, Who we are and What we serve. Our trucks operate throughout Montgomery County, MD from …

WeddingWire, the business behind a go-to website for planning a wedding and advertising to engaged couples, recently moved to 2 Wisconsin Circle in Chevy Chase—a space two and a half times the size of its old location in Bethesda.

The Chevy Chase Metro Building—at 2 Wisconsin Circle, right over the Friendship Heights Metrorail Station—has a new tenant: WeddingWire, the business behind a go-to website for planning all aspects of a wedding, and for advertising wedding wares and services to engaged couples. The company moved to its new digs—from its former headquarters at 7101 Wisconsin Ave., Bethesda—in the last week of December 2012. At 25,000 square feet (the entire third floor of the Chevy Chase Metro Building), the new space is two and a half times the size of the old location. This week, the company celebrated the opening of its new location. "The new space ... is an open floor plan complete with multiple private and semi-private conferences and meeting spaces …

Sluggish Economy, Disruptive Construction Force Zen Tara Tea Closure

The loss of nearby parking also was cited as a reason for closing up shop.

Bethesda tea shop Zen Tara Tea is shutting down operations later this month, citing the sluggish economy, disruptive construction nearby and the loss of nearby parking as the main reasons for closing up shop. Zen Tara Tea, which has operated at 4710 Bethesda Ave. for four years, "is not going bankrupt, isn't closing in the middle of the night leaving employees and creditors in a lurch, not asking for a bailout—we've lived up to all our responsibilities," according to a shop statement. "Talking with our staff and our landlord over the past month, ultimately we decided it was best to maintain our integrity and close this chapter of our tea adventure with our heads held high." The shop's last day will be May 26. "For now, we're going on a tea…

Report: Yuzu Opens; Food, Wine & Co. Revamps in Bethesda

The two eateries will be offering new fare to Bethesda diners soon.

Japanese restaurant Yuzu opens Monday, April 29, in the former Divino spot at 7345 Wisconsin Ave. in Bethesda, Bethesda Magazine reported: The menu at Yuzu—named after a pretty Asian citrus fruit (which decorates the awning outside the restaurant)—will feature a full range of sushi and sashimi, as well as combination of cold (i.e. albacore tuna tataki with spicy jalapeno sauce) and hot dishes (grilled mushrooms and scallops with butter). And, the nearby Food, Wine & Co. (at 7272 Wisconsin Ave., Bethesda) has "tweaked its image, with a new logo, awning, staff uniforms and a somewhat more whimsical, progressive menu, according to Chef Michael Harr," Bethesda Magazine reported: Dishes at the newly revamped restaurant will be mostly the same, …

Foodie News: Costco's Kosher Dairy Bakery, Friendship Heights' New Eateries

Restaurant news from around Montgomery County and adjacent Washington, DC, neighborhoods.

Get caught up with the food scene in Montgomery County and adjacent Washington, DC, neighborhoods with 1 Meat, 3 Sides. This week, a kosher dairy bakery takes center plate. One meat: The Costco that opened earlier this month at the Wheaton mall includes a kosher dairy bakery, Wheaton Patch reported. What makes Costco's bakery different from the other kosher bakeries in the area is that it is dairy, instead of pareve. Pareve baked goods, because they are prepared without dairy or meat, can then be eaten at a meal with either dairy or meat, under kosher guidelines. "Following the same rules, Costco's dairy baked goods cannot be eaten at meals with meat, but its bakery is the only place nearby where you'll be able to find a kosher cheesecake…

Le Pain Quotidien Open in Former Tynan Spot

The Shops at Wisconsin Place plaza has a lively cafe again.

The wait is over. Le Pain Quotidien opened this week in the former Tynan Coffee and Tea location on the plaza of The Shops at Wisconsin Place. On Tuesday afternoon, the restaurant was bustling, and diners packed the patio in the pleasant spring weather. The 1,331-square-foot restaurant, which seats 34 diners inside and 38 outside on the patio, was constructed with "eco-friendly features such as LED light fixtures, recycled cast iron arched windows and a recycled church pew," according to a news release from Le Pain Quotidien. The business' name means "the daily bread," and its motto is "where friends and strangers alike come together." Founded in Belgium in 1990, the restaurant is "renowned for its pâtisserie goods—macaroons, madeleines, …

I visited Le Pain this afternoon. What an abysmal experience! It took more than 30 minutes to get two coffees and a pastry. The wait staff was non-existent and seemed to ignore everyone. If their service doesn't improve quickly, it won't be in business for long in Chevy Chase, which is a pity since it could be a real asset for the neighborhood.   more ›
