Town, Village Face Burglaries with Increased Coverage, Thermal Vision Scopes
In the fight against burglaries in Chevy Chase, the Town of Chevy Chase has increased police coverage through the end of the year, and Chevy Chase Village will purchase special thermal vision scopes that detect heat in the dark.
Burglaries and attempted burglaries of houses and cars have increased in Chevy Chase over the past several months. At least 20 burglaries have occurred in the past few months in the Town of Chevy Chase alone, the Gazette recently reported. Things aren't much better in Chevy Chase Village. A quick glance through the village's "Crime Alerts" webpage indicates that village residents have been dealing with burglaries all year. Town and village are not passive in their responses to the crime uptick, however. Two thermal vision scopes—costing about $2,700 each—will be joining the Chevy Chase Village police force soon, thanks to the village board of managers' recent approval of the scopes' purchase.
