B-CC Hires Two New Coaches for Spring Season

Cari Huffman to lead varsity softball team; Marie Cornejo takes over co-ed volleyball

With the spring sports season less than two months away, Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School has filled two head-coaching vacancies, promoting junior varsity softball coach Cari Huffman to the varsity position and hiring Marie Cornejo to lead the co-ed volleyball team. Huffman, who teaches 8th grade history at Benjamin Banneker Middle School, held assistant coaching positions at Quince Orchard and Crossland high schools before spending the last two years leading the Barons' JV squad. A 2003 graduate of Quince Orchard, where she played softball under coach Patty Truitt, Huffman went on to play for two seasons at Montgomery College in Rockville. Walter Johnson Volleyball Team Defeats Bethesda-Chevy Chase

The Wildcats took down B-CC in five games on Tuesday.

Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School's varsity girls volleyball team faced off against Walter Johnson High on Tuesday in a match that kept fans and coaches at the edge of their seats. Both teams anticipated a good match, but it was the Walter Johnson Wildcats, playing at home Tuesday, that came out on top in the fifth and final game of the match. "We played two tough games and we're learning from that. I've seen Walter Johnson play before. If anything, it will be a good competition," said Beth Radovsky, coach of the B-CC Barons. With two losses and one win under their belt before Tuesday's match, the Barons were still the favored winners, according to the opposing team's coach, Bill Morris.
