Elise Hartman Ford, a freelance journalist who has written the annual "Frommer’s Guide to Washington" since 1998, recently wrote the content in a new travel app for Washington, DC.
“Washington DC: A to Z,” a smartphone app launched on June 17 and written by Chevy Chase resident Elise Hartman Ford, has quickly become one of the most popular travel apps available. “It’s doing quite well, consistently placing within the top 200 apps sold daily, out of more than 15,000 travel apps,” said Ford in an email to Patch. Ford has been a local freelance journalist since 1985. She writes frequently about DC for guidebooks like “Night + Day D.C.,” “Frommer’s Guide to Washington” (she’s been the sole author of that annual guide since 1998) and for publications including The Washington Post, “National Parks Magazine” and the “School Library Journal.” “I believe I know more about what's going on in Washington, in terms of all there …

Maryland drivers account for over 37 percent of overdue DC traffic tickets, which can be paid, without penalty, starting Aug. 1.
Of the $245.7 million owed to Washington, DC, in the form of overdue traffic tickets, Maryland drivers owe 37.6 percent, according to Lucinda Babers, director of the District's Department of Motor Vehicles. The overdue tickets include parking tickets, citations for moving violations and photo-enforcement tickets issued before January 1, 2010. But Marylanders will soon have a chance to pay off their tickets—which collectively total over $92 million—without paying any penalties. Yesterday, Mayor Vincent Gray announced a ticket amnesty program starting Aug. 1 that will allow delinquent ticket holders to pay up, fine-free. The amnesty will last through Jan. 27, 2012. It's the first ticket amnesty program offered by the District in 10 years. “…

I have to finish this column, I need to whip up dinner while I can, and I have to locate and gather all the flashlights for the kids and the babysitter so that panic does not ensue while I am gone. With this sort of fun at hand, who wouldn't want to visit us? Amazingly, people do, and luckily, we can usually resort to other summer diversions besides the all-too-frequent Pepco Challenge. Last week, I wrote about places your summer guests can visit down in Washington, DC, and so this week I thought I'd try to provide some suggestions for less, …

I just paid $22.87 for an iPad2-64GB and my girlfriend loves her Panasonic Lumix GF 1 Camera that we got for $38.76 there arriving tomorrow by UPS. I will never pay such expensive retail prices in stores again. Especially when I also sold a 40 inch LED TV to my boss for $675 which only cost me $62.81 to buy. Here is the website we use to get it all from, http://BuzzSave.com   more ›
