SPEAK OUT: Does Diversity Matter In Mall Video Simulation?

A recently released simulation of planned Montgomery Mall renovations has some readers wondering why there are apparently no people of color in the video.

A recently unveiled video simulation of renovations at the Westfield Montgomery Mall has some Patch readers talking, but the discussion isn't about what the mall's new food court and cinema will look like. Rather, some commenters are asking why Westfield does not appear to include people of color in the animation. Westfield responded that no offense was intended. The video "flies over" the mall's expanded food court and the entrance to the ArcLight Cinema planned for the second floor. And, while the animated food court is packed with simulated shoppers, none of them appear to be of color, some readers said. Montgomery Mall Unveils Video Simulation of ArcLight Cinema, Expanded Food Court

The mall has begun construction, according to a Facebook announcement.

Westfield Montgomery has released a video simulation of the ArcLight Cinemas and renovated food court planned for the mall. According to the Facebook page announcement, the mall is now under construction and a renovated dining terrace is expected by late fall 2013, followed by the opening of the 16-screen ArcLight Cinema in spring of 2014. The video "sneak peak" takes viewers through a simulation of the expanded seating and dining at the food court and the entrance to the cinemas, located on the second level above the eateries. More fast-casual dining similar to Noodles & Co. is planned for the second level near the theater, according to the Facebook announcement. I noticed that there also were no kids, nor anyone older than 40. I think that they want to emphasize that this will be a very hip place to hang out. Bottom line, I am glad that there will be this improvement and I am looking forward to even more over the next several years.   more ›

Aroma Espresso Opens Friday

Westfield Montgomery Mall says the store should be serving customers by the end of the week.

Delays have pushed the opening of Westfield Montgomery Mall's newest coffee shop since its debut was announced in September, but Aroma Espresso Bar should open Friday. Joanna Caputi, spokesperson for Westfield mall, said construction delays have pushed the opening of the store, which was expected to open in November of 2012. The store should open Friday, she said. It is located on the lower level of the mall near Old Navy, and will feature patio seating. The restaurant will serve soups, salads and pastries, along with its espresso selections.

End of January Opening Planned for Aroma Espresso Bar

The scent of a new coffee joint wafts ever closer.

Delays have pushed the opening of Westfield Montgomery Mall's newest coffee shop since its debut was announced in September, but Aroma Espresso Bar could open in two weeks. According to local restaurateur Eddie Benaim, who is heading the expansion of Israel's largest restaurant franchise into Westfield Mall, the coffee shop should be open within two weeks. "Construction is not completely done on the mall side but it should be done by the weekend," Benaim said. "We're probably going to do a soft opening on Jan. 27, as of now, unless there are unforeseen complications. We will plan something for a grand opening after it's open." Stuart Weitzman Opens At Westfield Montgomery

Mall's latest offering features high-end footwear.

Spotted in Bethesda: Stuart Weitzman is open at Westfield Montgomery Mall, giving area fasionistas another option for high-end footwear. The store opened Jan. 3, according to Westfield Montgomery Mall spokesperson Joanna Caputi. Currently, Stuart Weitzman is having a sale – up to 50 percent off select shoes – as an opening promotion. Tasty Image Opens In Westfield Montgomery Mall

The new store will offer personalized chocolates, catering and gift options.

When Tasty Image opens later this month in the Westfield Montgomery Mall, Bethesda and Potomac residents will have a new option for personalized gift-giving. The franchise’s first Maryland store will open on the lower level of Montgomery Mall Dec. 21, according to Mercedes Bendeck, the store’s senior catering specialist, and offers an assortment of chocolate boxes and personalized chocolate products. In addition to catering and gift options, Bendeck says the store will have enough space for in-house parties. “Our specialty is the personalized gifts – really putting your name on it,” she said. Aroma Espresso Bar Applies For Liquor License

The new Westfield Montgomery Mall eatery has pushed its opening date to mid-December.

  Aroma Espresso Bar, slated to open in mid-December, could be serving beer and wine, alongside a menu that includes soups, salads, breakfast and pastries. Emily De Titta of Montgomery County’s Department of Liquor Control confirmed that Aroma Espresso Bar opening in the Westfield Montgomery Mall has applied for a liquor license. The business is scheduled for a hearing on Dec. 20.  Multiple Aroma Espresso Bar locations in New York also serve beer and wine, according to its website. Robert Dyer first reported that the new Montgomery County location had applied for a liquor license. The franchise, Israel’s largest, has become an anticipated new addition to Westfield mall. Macy's Collects Santa Letters For Make-A-Wish Donation

Macy's will donate $1 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, up to $1 million, for every Santa letter dropped at the Westfield Montgomery Mall store.

If only it were possible to help make the world a better place with just our greedy, materialistic thoughts. Apparently it is. The 5th year of Macy's Believe Holiday Campaign benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation is in full swing, allowing children of all ages to trade in Santa letters in exchange for $1 donations to the charity. Children of all ages can bring a stamped Santa wish letter to the Westfield Montgomery Mall Macy’s, addressed to Santa at the North Pole, and drop it into the Macy’s Santa Mail Letterbox. For each letter received, from now umtil Dec. 24, Macy’s will donate $1 to Make-A-Wish up to $1 million, according to a recent blog post on Patch. Bobby's Burger Palace to Open in Montgomery Mall

The restaurant launched by celebrity chef Bobby Flay could be open within a year, Bethesda Magazine reports.

Bobby's Burger Palace, the burger chain launched by celebrity chef Bobby Flay, soon will be open at the Westfield Montgomery Mall, Bethesda Magazine reports. The chain could be open within a year as part of a major expansion planned for the shopping center, which will include renovations to the food court and a new movie theater. The chain, which also has Maryland locations in College Park and at the Maryland Live! Casino at Arundel Mills, features burgers with Angus beef, ground turkey or chicken breast.
