The pedestrian suffered injuries and was transported to the hospital, according to police.
A car struck a pedestrian in downtown Bethesda early Sunday evening, according to Montgomery County police. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue responded to Wisconsin and Woodmont avenues at 5:15 p.m., police said. The pedestrian was injured and taken to a hospital. No further details on the victim were immediately available. The accident shut down southbound Route 355 in the area for about an hour, police said. Closure of a portion of Woodmont Avenue to allow for construction of a public parking garage and two residential developments is set for Sept. 4. The closure is likely to impact Bethesda Row traffic, but morning rush commuters may be affected the most, officials say. Portable sign boards were installed on Woodmont on Aug. 24 announcing the Sept. 4 closure of a stretch of Woodmont south of Bethesda Avenue, according to a project update from developers StonebridgeCarras. Filling the space previously occupied by Indian restaurant Angeethi, Colombian brothers introduce new flavors to Bethesda.
Inspired by the “Nuevo Latin Flavor” in Miami, FL, brothers Juan Carlos and Edwin Balcazar opened their new restaurant, The Parva, July 9 on Woodmont Avenue. The restaurant fills the former Angeethi location which closed in April. “Because Bethesda has become wildly popular for having many different cuisine restaurants, we thought our new concept would contribute to such an amazing diversity,” Juan Carlos said. “We are proud of our creation.” The restaurant will serve mid-priced Latin American dishes that stem from Colombia, Peru and Argentina including ceviche, horneaditas and la paisa.
