George W. Huguely V, who was convicted last year for the 2010 murder of fellow University of Virginia student Yeardley Love, will appeal his conviction in the State Court of Appeals, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reported.
The Virginia State Court of Appeals has agreed to hear the appeal of Chevy Chase resident George W. Huguely V, who was convicted last year for the murder of fellow University of Virginia student Yeardley Love, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reported. "The appeals court, in a decision dated Tuesday, granted an appeal based on defense arguments that the court should have struck a juror because of apparent doubts about her impartiality. The court also said it will examine if Huguely was effectively denied a right to counsel when one of his defense lawyers became sick during trial," the Richmond Times-Dispatch added. Defense attorneys for the Chevy Chase man convicted in the death of Cockeysville native Yeardley Love are seeking to set aside the guilty verdict and request a new trial.
A hearing for a motion to set aside the verdict and request a new trial in the George Huguely murder conviction has been rescheduled. In February, Huguely, 24, was found guilty of second-degree murder and grand larceny in the May 2010 death of Cockeysville native Yeardley Love. Huguely and Love were both lacrosse players at the University of Virginia. The hearing, which was scheduled for Friday, will now take place on Aug. 22 at 1 p.m., according to a news release from the Charlottesville, VA, circuit court clerk.
