Little lost beagle Sassafras visited Chevy Chase Elementary School recently, and her scent was tracked by a tracking dog from the school down Connecticut Avenue earlier this week.
Hopes are high that lost beagle Sassafras, who ran away from her doggie day care in April, will be found soon. A resident of the 4000 block of Thornapple Street called Sassafras' owners on Monday, Aug. 29, to report that a dog matching Sassafras' description walked in the front door of her house and out the side door on Sunday evening, Aug. 28, according to Sassafras' owners' blog, www.findsassafras.net. The woman didn't realize it might be Sassafras until the next day. On Tuesday, tracking dog Salsa confirmed that the dog who passed through the home on the 4000 block of Thornapple Street was Sassafras. Salsa tracked Sassafras past the Chevy Chase Elementary School to Connecticut Avenue and down to Chevy Chase Circle. The location makes …

A group of kids told him that they saw a brown dog running around but we are not positive it was George. We are all extremely devastated and are working hard to do everything possible to locate this sweet boy. I have spent the past week advising my brother on the appropriate steps to take and I feel that every pet owner should know what to do when a pet becomes lost. The feeling of not knowing where your dog is or whether or not he is safe is incredibly painful and brings many emotions—panic, fear, regret and guilt, just to name a few. But, the first 24 hours after losing a pet are critical. Rather …

Sassafras, who has been missing since April, is still out there, as recent professional trackings confirm.
Little lost beagle Sassafras, who escaped from her dog walker on April 8, is still out there, and sightings and a professional tracker confirm it. In the last few weeks, Sassafras has been spotted and tracked wandering around American University, Chevy Chase, Bethesda and near Rock Creek Park. With the temperature rising, her owners are very anxious about finding her and bringing her home soon. If you spot her or can snap a picture of her on your phone and note her location, contact Beth or Jeff at 202-664-2301 (or email them at findsassafras@gmail.com). Sassafras' owners say that she is highly unlikely to come to strangers and will run away if chased. She was 20 pounds when lost and has a few distinctive physical characteristics that …

Hi Sheila, Thank you so much for your concern, that was very sweet of you to ask. Unfortunately he never did find George. The worst part is not knowing whether he is alive or not. He is microchipped so we are hoping that someday he will turn up. I have been keeping tabs on the situation with Sassafras and hope that she too turns up at some point. Losing a dog is just the worst feeling ever. …   more ›
