Tornadoes, severe thunderstorms, showers and flooding are all in the mix of Tuesday's forecast and possibilities for Montgomery County.
Update: 11:57 a.m.: The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for Montgomery County and much of the area until 7 p.m. Showers and thunderstorms are expected in Montgomery County Tuesday along and ahead of a cold front. Some of the thunderstorms may become severe and produce damaging wind gusts and isolated tornadoes, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). Periods of heavy downpours are also expected, which could lead to localized flash flooding. The severe weather is likely to run from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., NWS says. Tuesday evening, patchy fog is expected along with showers and a chance of thunderstorms. Some storms will be capable of damaging wind gusts and hail, according to the National Weather Service.
Montgomery County faces the risk of severe thunderstorms and tornadoes this afternoon and evening, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). The severe thunderstorm risk is slight, NWS says, but advises some storms will be capable of damaging wind gusts and hail—and a few could produce tornadoes. The highs this afternoon will be in the upper 80s with the chance of rain 70 percent, according to NWS. Tonight will be mostly cloudy with showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly in the evening, and lows in the upper 60s.

Facilities such as pools and libraries with power will be open during normal business hours. A decision has not yet been made regarding July 4 celebrations.
County-sponsored recreational activities are canceled for Monday and Tuesday as widespread power outages continue following Friday's storm. The Montgomery County Department of Recreation has canceled all scheduled events, including summer camp programs through Tuesday. County facilities such as pools and libraries with power will be open during scheduled operating hours, but customers are encouraged to call ahead before visiting. All community activities scheduled at the Montgomery County Public Schools building are also canceled through Tuesday because nearly 140 schools are still without power. The county has not yet made a decision on 4th of July festivities such as fireworks and parades. An announcement should come Tuesday.

A Montgomery County resident was killed in the severe storm, authorities say.
A 71-year-old Montgomery County woman was found dead Saturday, the apparent victim of a tree that fell through the roof of her house and onto her bed during a severe storm. Montgomery County Police were investigating the discovery by Fire and Rescue workers who responded to a call for a tree downed on a home in Silver Spring. Rescue workers had to force themselves into a locked home on the 10000 block of Grant Avenue. Once inside, they discovered the woman's body, unresponsive, in a bedroom on the second floor of the house, according to police. Thousands of customers were without power following Friday night’s storm, and Pepco officials estimated that full power restoration could take days. Lightning, rain and winds gusting up to 60 mph struck Montgomery and Prince George's counties overnight Friday. As of 8 a.m. Saturday, the county estimated 210,000 Pepco customers remained without power out of 305,000 in Montgomery County. Some 500 out of 800 traffic signals were without power across the county, according to the county information offices, while trees and debris littered streets across the area.
