Shuttle Buses Replace Trains on Red Line Segment This Weekend

Metro will open at 5 a.m. on Sunday for the Nike Women Half Marathon.

Free shuttle buses will replace Red Line trains this weekend between the NoMa-Gallaudet and Takoma stations, according to a Metro news statement. The service changes will allow for bridge work at New York Avenue Station, and for tie replacement, insulator renewal and communication system upgrades. Starting at 10 p.m. on Friday, April 26, and continuing through closing on Sunday, two stations will be closed: Rhode Island Avenue and Brookland. Also, the Fort Totten Station will be open for Green and Yellow Line service only. Trains will operate between Glenmont and Takoma and between Shady Grove and NoMa-Gallaudet every 10 minutes during daytime hours and at regular weekend intervals at other times. Metro's 'Spring Break' Over, Track Work Resumes

The weekend track work schedule picks up again this weekend.

Metro's track work-free weekends of cherry blossom time are over. This weekend—from 10 p.m. on Friday, April 19, through closing on Sunday, April 21—Red Line trains will be replaced by free shuttle buses between Gallery Place and Union Station "as workers install 600 feet of new lighting fixtures between the tracks at Judiciary Square Station. ... Rail service must be suspended because the light fixtures are located within inches of both third rails," Metro reported on its website. The Judiciary Square Station will be closed all weekend, and trains will run between Glenmont and Union Station every 10 minutes during daytime hours and at regular weekend intervals at other times. Red Line Single Tracks Between Friendship Heights, Van Ness

Schedule extra time for your trip into Washington, DC this weekend.

Metro riders are being asked to tack on extra time to their commute this weekend, when trains will single track between Friendship Heights and Van Ness to allow for repair work. Trains will also single-track between Takoma and Rhode Island Avenue, Metro reported on its website. Red Line trains will single track in the two work zones starting at 10 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 22, and continuing through closing on Sunday. During the weekend, trains between Shady Grove and Glenmont will operate every 24 minutes in each direction. On Saturday and Sunday, between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m., extra trains will be added between Van Ness and NoMa-Gallaudet, so that trains will run about every 12 minutes between those stations, Metro added. Red Line Metro Trains Single Track This Weekend

This weekend's scheduled track work on the Red Line will end at noon on Sunday.

Red Line trains will single track between the Farragut North and Judiciary Square Metrorail stations this weekend, from 10 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 25, through noon on Sunday, Jan. 27, Metro reported on its website. During this time, trains will operate every 20 minutes between Shady Grove and Glenmont. Additional trains will run between Shady Grove and Farragut North between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. on Saturday and between 9 a.m. and noon on Sunday, providing service about every 10 minutes between those stations, Metro added. Metrorail News: Red Line Weekend Track Work

Buses replace trains between Grosvenor and Friendship Heights this weekend.

Buses will replace Red Line trains between the Grosvenor and Friendship Heights Metrorail stations this weekend—between 10 p.m. on Friday and closing on Sunday, according to Metro's website. The track closure will "allow for rail renewal/replacement, structural repairs, tunnel leak mitigation and related improvements," Metro reported. The Medical Center and Bethesda stations will be closed, and Red Line trains will operate in two segments: between Shady Grove and Grosvenor, and between Friendship Heights and Glenmont. Buses to Replace Metro Trains This Weekend Between Bethesda, Rockville

Plan ahead if you're catching the Red Line this weekend.

If you’re planning on taking the Red Line this weekend, expect delays. Buses will be replacing Metro trains between Bethesda and Rockville as part of WMATA’s new initiative to speed up maintenance and safety work. As part of the initiative, WMATA will be closing certain stations as an alternative to single-tracking trains through work zones. The transit agency says this will help accelerate repair work and lessen delays outside of work zones. “This approach allows work to proceed on a faster timetable and to preserve normal or near-normal weekend service levels elsewhere on your rail line,” a Metro statement read.
