Artists, submit your work to the regional juried visual art competition.
Calling all artists! April 1 is your deadline to submit an application for The Trawick Prize, a juried visual art competition established in 2003 by Bethesda community activist and philanthropist Carol Trawick. Prize money totaling $14,000 will be awarded to the winners, and the work of selected artists will be featured in September in a group exhibition at Bethesda's Gallery B. The deadline to enter is April 1. Notifications will be mailed April 26. Up to 10 finalists will be selected. Of those, the artist named best in show will be awarded with $10,000; $2,000 will go to the second-place winner, and $1,000 to the third-place winner. A young artist may be awarded $1,000. This month's Art Walk will be held in conjunction with the opening reception for the Trawick Prize 10th Anniversary Exhibition.
It’s the second Friday of the month, so that means downtown Bethesda art galleries will keep their doors open late for the Bethesda Art Walk. Participating galleries will showcase local, national and international artwork in a variety of media from 6-9 p.m. This month’s Art Walk will be held in conjunction with an opening reception for the Trawick Prize 10th Anniversary Exhibition at Gallery B. The special group exhibition and competition is underway to showcase the work of the artists who have taken "Best in Show" for the Trawick Prize, an annual contemporary art competition founded in 2003, over the past 10 years. Baltimore artist Jo Smail has taken home the Sapphire Award and $10,000 after being named the “best of the best” of Trawick Prize winners over the past 10 years. The Trawick Prize is an annual juried contemporary art competition, founded by Bethesda community activist and philanthropist Carol Trawick in 2003. To celebrate the competition’s 10th anniversary, a special group exhibition is underway at Gallery B to showcase the work of the artists who have taken "Best in Show" for the past 10 years. Jury to determine ‘Best of the Best,’ public will weigh in to determine ‘People’s Choice’ winner.
They’ve already won “Best in Show” in the past. Now, a competition is set to determine which Trawick Prize-winning artist is the "Best of the Best" over the last decade. The Trawick Prize, an annual juried contemporary art competition founded by Bethesda community activist and philanthropist Carol Trawick in 2003, is marking its 10th year. To celebrate the anniversary, a special exhibit is planned to show the work of the artists who have taken "Best in Show" for the past 10 years. It’s the second Friday of the month, so get ready for Bethesda Art Walk from 6-9 p.m. Downtown Bethesda art galleries will stay open late and showcase the work of local, national and international artists. You can walk to the galleries, or hop on the free Bethesda Circulator. Artforms include painting, photography, sculpture and mixed media. The winners of the annual Trawick Prize juried contemporary art competition are in, and $14,000 in prize money has been awarded to the top District, Maryland and Virginia artists. The four winners were announced during a Wednesday evening reception. “Best in Show” – and $10,000 – was awarded to Baltimore artist Lillian Bayley Hoover. David D’Orio, of Mt. Ranier, took second place and $2,000, and Washington, DC, artist Dean Kessmann won third and $1,000. Richmond, VA, artist Hannah Walsh took the “Young Artist” award and was honored with $1,000. The envelope, please. Eleven finalists have been announced for the 2011 Trawick Prize, and the lucky winners of the regional visual art competition will be awarded $14,000 in prize money. Established in 2003 by Bethesda community activist and philanthropist Carol Trawick, the Trawick Prize has awarded over $112,000 and has exhibited the work of over 90 visual artists since its inception, according to a Bethesda Urban Partnership new release.
