    BURGERS IN MODERATION

As a big fan of burgers, I have found that you can appreciate burgers even more if you eat them periodically rather than chomp them down every day. I look forward to every burger I eat because it is a treat rather than a daily habit. My waistline would be even bigger if I consumed burgers every 24 hours. The reason that we have so many "fatsos" plodding the streets of Downtown Bethesda is because too many Bethesdans are hamburger- addicted, requiring their daily Burger-Fix. So, make your "way" to the Salad Bar rather than to the Burger Joint,

    TAKE-AWAY FROM GALLUP POLL:

From the recent Gallup poll, it appears that Maryland Residents are in pretty good shape "stress-wise". This may be caused by the University of Maryland male sports teams which are no longer competitive. If the Male Terp Sport Teams were more competitive in football and basketball, then Maryland Residents would be suffering much anxiety during the post-season. Since it is unlikely that the Male Terps will be serious contenders in the near future, Maryland Residents may wish to move to Hawaii to further improve their "low stress" standing.

THE IMPORTANCE OF THE NON PROFIT SECTOR:

In this US Government-oriented town, it is important to remember that the Government Sector is but one part of America. The other parts are the Non-Profit Sector and the Private Sector. America has a deep and long tradition of Non-Profits doing meaningful work. Movermoms is a wonderful example of a NPO doing great stuff. It is also a great example of how parents can engage their children in constructive community service work. Movermoms is moving in the right direction!

"RECOGNIZING THE PRESENT AS WELL AS THE PAST"

Of hundreds of historic places in DC only 24 sites were chosen to ccmpete for $100,000 (USD) in restoration funds from the the National Trust for Historic Preservation. In casting your vote it is important to consider not only the physical architectural beauty of these monuments to the past, but also their present contribution to our visual and spritual enrichment. That is why I plan to vote for the for the Sixth and I Street site, the 104 year old building seeking funds to repair its historic stained glass windows. That building is a tribute to both the past and the present.

    BETHESDA HOUSING MARKET IS HOT!

A few days ago I received an unsollicited phonecall from a Real Estate Agent asking me if I knew of any Homeowner in Bethesda that was considering puting her/his home on the market. He was hoping that I could refer such a person to him so that he could get the listing. The Real Estate Agent also mentioned that the inventory for Bethesda homes on the market is quite low. Well, it appears that the present market for Bethesda homes is a seller's market.

    EL MERCADO COMUN de Bethesda:

Having lived and worked for many years in Latin America, I have a particular appreciation for the Bethesda Central Farm Market.

In Latin America a market that sells fresh and wholesome vittles such as those offered by the Bethesda Central Farm Market is often called El Mercado Comun ( or Common Market). However the food products sold at the Bethesda version of the Common Market are not common; they are SUPERIOR. Bethesda's Common Market is a true jewel with the jeweler being Mitch Berliner who coordinates the various participating venders. I recommend strongly that you come and harvest at Bethesda's Common Market.

    IT'S ABOUT TIME:

Persons who frequently use the Bethesda Metro Station, particularly those who live close to the Bethesda Metro, should be delighted that finally the "powers that be" will be doing something substantial to improve the physical appearance and technical functioniing of the Bethesda Metro. The Bethesda Metro Station is a vital link in the Red Line System. Congratulations are in order for at least 2 persons who have been advocates for upgrading the Bethesda Metro Station: Ginanne Italiano of the Bethesda Chamber of Commerce and Jon Weintraub of the Downtown Bethesda Condo Association.

DOWNTOWN BETHESDA: It offers more than just Restaurants

The Downtown Bethesda Urban Village ( DBUV) offers more than just Restaurants, Movie Theatres, Real Estate Agents, and Medical Care providers. The DBUV offers a number of quality coffee shops. My personal favorite is Quartermaines Coffee Shop located on Bethesda Avenue, next door to Bethesda Bagels. Besides GREAT coffee, Quartermaine's provides friendly service. Plus, now that the weather is amenable to outdoor sipping; I suggest that you sit on one of the benches outside of Quartermaines, sip the coffee, and watch the Urban Theatre that daily occurs in front of the BEST COFFEE SHOP IN DOWNTOWN BETHESDA.

    "TIT FOR TAT":
Reluctantly I might concur with the Washington "Redskins" changing their nickname, but only under the proviso that the Dallas "Cowboys" change their nickname as well. Might I suggest the Dallas "Has-Beens".

    NO BUTTS ABOUT IT!
With all the issues facing Downtown Bethesda like parking. pedestrian safety, and high retail rents; it seems almost trivial to raise the issue of sheerness of Lulu Lemon yoga pants as a vital issue.
In this modern age, women can and should make choices. Some women work out diligently at the yoga studio and the gym to maintain and improve their physical appearance. If some women prefer to wear sheer yoga pants, they should have the option of doing so. NO BUTTS ABOUT IT!
